Compact Shine

Compact Shine is an instrument designed specifically for luminance measurements in sites with fixed lighting installations (roads, car parks, tunnels and so on). The operator has the possibility to create a grid of points according to current regulations and according to the type of environment and carry out luminance measurements for each point within this grid.

The instrument consists of:

  • an optical head mounted on a support, connected to a laptop via a USB cable;
  • a laser pointer used to locate the measurement point within the grid;
  • a rangefinder that allows finding the distance between the luminance meter and the point to be measured.

The optical head is equipped with a telescopic objective with high luminous efficiency with a diameter of 80 mm and a focal distance of 310 mm which allows to obtain high measurement sensitivity for extremely small fields of view with:

  • horizontal field of view resolution:  +/- 1.5º;
  • vertical field of view resolution: +/- 0.05º.

The measurement results are automatically saved in a database without operator intervention, inserted into the relevant cells of the grid and processed in a completely automated manner. In the export file, apart from the information related to the measurement conditions (type of road, number of lanes, environmental conditions, etc.) and the luminance values measured as written above, the following are also reported:

  • Uo
  • Ul
  • Minimum luminance
  • Maximum luminance
  • Average luminance

Compact Shine description

Acquisition optical head

The optical head is equipped with a telescopic objective with high luminous efficiency (80mm diameter and 310mm focal length) which allows to obtain high measurement sensitivity for extremely small fields of view. Designed for luminance measurement applications in sites with fixed lighting installations such as roads, car parks, street furniture, etc. , it is possible to select 2 sensitivity levels:

  • level 1: range 0-10 cd/m2 (for luminance measurements on the field)
  • level 2: range > 10 cd/m2 (for glare measurements or other applications)

As required by existing standard the field of view has an high resolution:

  • horizontal field of view +/- 1.5º
  • vertical field of view +/- 0.05º

Laser pointer

To precisely locate the measurement point, the optical head is equipped with a laser pointer with the following characteristics:

Laser power 5mW

Maximum visible distance 300 meters.

Switching on with the appropriate ON/OFF button located on the rear. (The power button is not a release button, so once it is turned on, you will have to press the button again to turn it off)

Collimation Horizontal and vertical calibration adjustable using 3 screws

Monocular rangefinder

The system must guarantee measurement precision at distances greater than 60 metres, the optical head is equipped with a rangefinder monocle which allows you to enlarge the measurement area and therefore be able to see the laser aiming in detail and with appropriate references measure approximately the distance of same measurement.

Control software technical specifications

The optical acquisition head is managed and controlled via software through a very light and easy to handle portable computer (notebook).

The software displays the luminance measurement on the screen in real time and also manages and processes the measurement data according to the regulations:

UNI 10439  –  type 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 6

and

EN 13201  –  ME1 – ME2 – ME3a – ME3b – ME3c – ME4a – ME4b – ME5 – ME6 – 

Road measurements

For these measurements, level 1 of instrument sensitivity is selected (0-10 cd/m2). Once a calculation grid has been defined, the measured luminance values are inserted from time to time into the relevant cells. Once the grid has been completed with all the measured values, the software calculates: Uo, Ul, Lum min, Lum max and Lum average and is able to compare them (at the operator’s choice) with any of the regulations listed above, highlighting any anomalies or values not respected.

Glare measurements

For these measurements, instrument sensitivity level 2 is selected (>10 cd/m2). The instrument must be directed towards the luminaire or lamp whose glare is to be measured, take a measurement and then another on the background. The software automatically calculates the glare Ti in % and is able to compare it (at the operator’s choice) with any of the regulations listed above, highlighting any anomalies or values not respected.
